people think this song is made up, but it is based on a true event. Raymond Brody's wife, Irene Brody was cheating on him with Andy Woloe (don't know if spelling is correct) and allegedly with a lawyer and judge as well, and maybe others before. Raymond took the fall for his sister, Liouse Brody, who really killed Andy and Irene and hid Irene's body which says in the song that it will never be found, however when Liouse died in 1962, 2 months after confessing, a letter was found that told where Liouse had hidden Irene's body. Before, Liouse had just spread the rumor that Irene had left town. This trial was definitely make believe because if Raymond had fired two shots (which were found in the ceiling of the house where Andy and Irene were murdered) then most would wonder why two shots were fired so randomly. And I definitely believe the judge and the lawyer had slept with the Irene which is why they didn't make a big deal out of this case; they wanted to save their butts.
"The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia" was first sung by Vicki Lawrence in 1972; she had the top-40 hit version of it, and it was written by her then-husband Bobby Russell. In 1981, Tanya Tucker did a version of the song, and in 1991, so did Reba McIntyre.
Andy and the brother (Raymond) are at a bar. Andy says Raymond's wife isn't home tonight. Raymond got mad & said I've been with her myself. Andy got scared and left the bar. Raymond's then went home. He then came to confront Andy with a gun. But when he got there Andy was dead! He saw that Georgia-patrol, so he flagged down a passing sheriff. Then he realized his sister was there. He was protecting her. He was sent to a make-believe trial (when you don't got to tell your side of the story). He pleated guilty. The judge didn't want to hear the truth because his involvement with Raymond's wife. (The judge & Andy were with Raymond's wife.) At midnight he was hung. At the end of the music video, the sister admitted to the murder.
Yes, she did. The original hit version was recorded in 1972 by Vicki Lawrence, the then-wife of the song-writer (Bobby Russell). In 1981, Tanya Tucker did a cover version of the song. Another cover version was done by Reba McIntire in 1991.

It is based on Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet.
There seems to be no records to support this to be an actual execution.
The novel does have some factual basis, although calling it "based on a true story" is a bit of an overstatement. It is a fictional story, but the author, Harriet Beecher Stowe, drew her inspiration for the title character from the life and times of a real man named Josiah Henson. No it was not a true story!!
The Movie Prom Night was not based on a true story, that was a rumor.
Yes, it was loosely based on the story of Larry Davis.
Its true but not as the song goes.. The last man to be hung was my dads uncle, George Baker. His brother Ralph shot the sheriff but George was older and took the rath of it.
there are no reasons to believe that the storyline was based on real events.
