Edgar Allan Poe had two siblings, an older brother, William Henry Leonard Poe, and a younger sister, Rosalie Mackenzie Poe. He didn't know them well because they were separated at very young ages after their parents died. His brother became an alcoholic and died in 1831 of tuberculosis, and his sister became mentally ill and died in 1874.

Edgar Allan Poe was not an only child. He was the second child of the actress Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe and actor David Poe, Jr. He was born on January 19, 1809. His older brother was named William Henry Leonard Poe, and his younger sister was named Rosalie Poe.

Edgar Allan Poe was the middle child. He had one brother and one sister. His brother's name was William Henry Leonard Poe who was also a poet before he died. His sister's name was Rosalie Mackenzie Poe. After the death of their parents, the children were split up. While Henry lived with family in Baltimore, Maryland, Rosalie and Edgar were placed in the care of separate foster families in Richmond, Virginia.

Poe was never reunited with his siblings as a family unit growing up. His older brother and younger sister had been taken in and raised by two other families. Despite this separation, the three kept in touch as adults.
