The leader of Islam Is Muhammad.
Islam is not an organization. Thus we can't say who is the leader. Muslims believes in one god(Allah), and muhammed is the messenger of Allah and he is the one and only prophet Islam of this time.
Islam was inspired by the influential visions of a man named Muhammad Ibn Abdullah (about 500-632 CE) Merchant from nomadic tribe, married to wealthy widow Khadija. His followers considered him the last of God's prophets. Muhammad's father died before he was born and his mother died when he was six. He was raised by an uncle. Saw greed and materialism of merchants, as counter to Arab tradition of generosity. He went on retreats and had visions for 23 years, his wife encouraged him to listen and he began to share his views to a group of followers (Muslims).Muhammad did not consider himself divine, but a prophet of God, his final voice which was to finish the work of the others (Abraham and Jesus). Starting with 70 Muslims, he built a community of believers, Umma, who united around God's message around 600 in Mecca.
Mohammed did not have a Caliph per se. Caliph means "Successor", so there was no Caliph during Mohammed's time because Mohammed was alive and needed no successor. After Mohammed, the Shiites believed that a particular speech given at Ghadir indicated the Mohammed had chosen 'Ali. The Sunnis countered that it was important to allow someone not of Mohammed's genetic line to inherit power so that it was clear that Islam was not just another dynastic cycle and disputed the implications of the events at Ghadir.
The first Caliph after Mohammed was Abu Bakr, who was elected by the Sunnis.
Caliph is a title of Muslim ruler (as king, president, sultan, prince, ...) for the Islamic State in early centuries of Islam.Caliph is called in Arabic "Khalifa" that means in English the Successor.
So, first Islam Caliph was Abou Bakr, the successor of prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in ruling the Islamic State.
Historically, Prophet Muhammad and the Caliphs were considered the leaders of Islam (particularly Sunni Islam when the Caliphs are considered). However, The Caliphate was abolished in the early 1900s and Islam remains leaderless on worldwide level.

As far as I am aware Islam does not have a single spiritual leader, in the same way that Christianity has the Pope. Until the end of the Ottoman Empire (1918) the sultan of the Ottoman Empire was the de facto spiritual leader of Islam.
While there is no worldwide leader of Islam, most Muslim communities have an Imam who leads service and provides spiritual help.
Allah subhanallah wa ta'la is Rabb, meaning creator, master and our lord
The daily worship leader is called Imam.
