There are many reasons for the war of Mahabharata.

  • Ego problem of Duryodhan
  • Due to Draupadi who once in front of Duryodhan said "Andhe ka beta andha" (like father, the son is also blind)
  • The "cheer haran" of Draupadi
  • Duryodhan refused to give even 5 villages to Pandavs
  • The "Adharma" had to be defeated, thus the war was destined

And the most important reason was Lord Krishna. His main aim was "Dharma Sthapna" and his view was that without war vicious people can not be ended. He started this from his childhood by killing Kamsa and Jarasandha.

He wanted least damage to common people in the war. This was ensured by his very wise planning. He also ensured that this war does not remain only between Kauravs and Pandava's but also included most of the powerful nations of that time dividing good and bad, so that once and for all the bad people can be removed affirmatively.

Even the war could have been stopped when Arjun decided not to fight. But it was Lord Krishna who motivated him to fight a war, as without him Pandvas must have stepped back from the war.

Finally he succeeded in his aim and most of the bad forces of that time were defeated and the good kings won.

In all Mahabharata you will find him planning, motivating, moulding the situations very wisely towards the final war.

It was Lord Sri Krishna who was playing Behind the Scenes like a smart director.
