Catholic Churches are built for one reason, and one reason only, to give greater glory to God, and to be a worthy home for Him, especially in the Eucharist, which is reserved in every Catholic Church. Protestant churches do not have Jesus in the Eucharist and thus are no more than meeting houses where people gather for prayer, the entire orientation is different.
The name "catholic" means universal, so the "catholic church" is all the believers in Christ all over the world. The organized church was more (or less) one church until the Eastern Orthodox church split from the Roman Catholic church, which was (and is) headquartered in Rome. At the time of the Protestant Reformation, the Protestant churches left the rule of the Roman Catholic church and formed their own denominations (such as Lutherans, Baptists, Presbyterians). Sometimes people use the term "catholic" when they really should use the term Roman Catholic, so things can get confused.
The majority of Christians in the USA are Protestant.
There are far more Catholics than Protestants.
There is more in common betwen the Catholic Church and most Protestant churches than there is different, especially in the most important things, like our faith in God as Trinity, faith in Christ, the Resurrection, baptism, the importance of the Bible, etc. There are many different Protestant churches and communities, each is different from the other, and so each is different from the Catholic Church in different ways.
it depends which church you mean, e.g catholic or protestant etc
First, there is more in common betwen the different Christian churches and communities there is different, especially in the most important things, like our faith in God as Trinity, faith in Christ, the Resurrection, baptism, the importance of the Bible, etc.It is also important to remember that there are many different Protestant churches and communities, each is different from the other, and so each is different from the Catholic Church and Orthodox Church in different ways.Briefly, though, differences include:The Catholic Church is a communion of 23 autonomous churches, present throughout the world, all of which are in communion with the pope (the bishop of Rome). The Orthodox Church is a communion of 25-30 autocephalous and autonomous churches in communion with the Ecumenical Patriarch (the bishop of Constantinople). There are also the six Oriental Orthodox Churches which are in commmunion with the pope of Alexandria, and the Assyrian Church in communion with the Patriarch of Selucia-Ctesiphon.There is no Protestant Church, per se, only a variety of protestant churches, and each can differ as much from the other as from either of the above two groups. The main thing they have in common is that they are not Catholic (or Orthodox).Read more: Differences_between_Catholic_and_protestants
First of all the Greek Orthodox broke with the Catholic Church and then during the period called the reformation the the "reformists" broke with the Catholic Church and formed various 'protestant' churches
Archbishop added a few catholic touches to the Protestant Church. This included decorating the church- Protestants only liked plain churches . The Protestants reacted badly to this change though
Protestantism is a sect (denomination) of Christianity that tries to demphasize the rituals that the Catholic denomination emphasizes. Keep in mind, this is not unorthodox; Protestant churches are just more simple than Catholic churches.
The main difference is that the Catholic Church has a lot more bright colours, whereas the Protestants are more bland.
The Catholic church believes in the 'Apostolic Succession' which means that It has a leader appointed by God directly (God->Jesus->St. Peter->Pope->Load more Popes->Current Pope). The Protestant church doesn't have this. In the Anglican Church the line was broken when King Henry the VIII of England declared himself head of the Church. So from a Catholic or Orthodox point of view all the Protestant Churches do not count as proper religions (but nobody makes a big deal of it now-a-days).
