Why are people scared of German Shepherds?

A mentally sound German Shepherd shouldn't be. But that's why we shouldn't encourage puppy mills and back yard breeders who aren't careful about socialization and the genetic components of temperament.

There are different types of aggression in dogs and not all German Shepherds are aggressive. The German Shepherd is a herding type dog and extremely intelligent; however, they are a breed that tends to have a high guarding drive. There are many reasons why a dog could become aggressive. It could be health, social, or incident driven and it is usually best to find a professional who works with the breed and is qualified to assess and re-train such a dog.

They are FAR from aggressive, protective yes but never aggressive unless threatened or abused to be that way.

Further more German Shepherds are police dogs and from such working lines are supposed to take down a criminal, they may look aggressive in doing this but are only gripping a certain part to restrain, a dog is only aggressive and this is any breed in fact if the owner can not control it and doesn't make it clear that they are alpha.

Dogs aren't vicious just because they are a certain breed, including German Shepherds. German Shepherds are a popular breed. Unfortunately, this makes them a popular target for puppy mills and backyard breeders. Neither of these types of breeder does proper screening for a sound temperament or socialize the pups properly from birth. Another reason why German Shepherds may be inaccurately considered vicious is because of their use as police, guard, and personal protection dogs. Bear in mind, however, that they are also used as therapy dogs, guide dogs for the blind, and sheep herding dogs. So it isn't the breed that determines whether an individual animal will be vicious, but the genetics behind the dog, the way it is raised, and what it is trained to do that all come together to determine how the dog behaves around people.

A breed is never considered dangerous. It always depends on the dog. If a German Shepherd is not trained or socialized, it can potentially be dangerous. Every breed of dog has the potential to be dangerous.

Not if they are rasied with lots of love and attention and well fed and being around people helps alot.always talk sweet and try not to rasie your voice,I had one and she was spoiled rotten and would have never hurt anyone for any reason.
