To my knowledge, no candles are made from sulfur except greenhouse fumigating candles. Sulfur, when burned emits sulfur dioxide, a highly noxious gas, and so would not be used in household candles. These are made from various waxes (beeswax, paraffin), animal fats such as tallow, hydrogenated (solidified) vegetable oils and stearates.
In some candles from China there is arsenic in them.

∙ 8y agoWhen you light a candle, the heat from the flame melts the wax near the burning wick. This liquid wax is then drawn up the wick by capillary action. The heat of the flame vaporizes the liquid wax by turning it into a hot gas, which burn. In miost cases the cande has parffin additive to promote combustion

"Wax is actually a fuel. The heat from the fire melts the wax and the fuel evaporates into the air and then into the fire. If you know of any material besides wax that is a mold-able and safe fuel feel free to use it."
