Because the chemical of that susbstance does not change, the only change in phase transition is the physical properties. For example, water (liquid) ------> water (ice). In this phase transition water is always H2O, but now water is harden (physically). However, you may think of the interactions between the molecules, but the chemical interation between water molecules do not change, only the fact that they interact with each other more frequently, which is also physical interaction. Hope this is help

Changing the amount of heat energy usually causes a temperature change. However, during the phase change, the temperature stays the same even though the heat energy changes. This energy is directed into changing the phase and not into raising the temperature. That's why the temperature of water doesn't increase as it is boiling. The temperature remains constant until the phase change is complete.

All atoms have motion. The higher the temperature of an atom, the faster the motion. A solid will merely vibrate, although your eyes cannot detect this. A liquid will allow atoms to roll around each other but not bounce out of their container. A gas is of such a high temperature that the molecules are literally bouncing off the container and taking up as much space as they are allowed. Remember--the higher the energy level or temperature, the faster and farther apart the atoms move.

The second part is just extra;D

phase changes occur because it depends on the tempature and if the phase didn't change then all the phases would be the same if there wasn't phase changes

What changes from a solid to gas?

Dry ice, or solid CO2, In a physical change called sublimation. Other solids go through this phase too, however.

What order of water cycle phase changes would an ice cube most likely go through when it is put into a glass outside in the Sun?

melting, evaporation, condensation

What state does water go through when it changes into gas?

condensation

What is a phase microscope?

A phase-contrast microscope (or phase-difference microscope or phase microscope) allows better viewing of clear specimens that usually need to be stained before you can make out the various parts. Staining is a time consuming process and kills the cells being viewed. With a phase-contrast microscope, living cells can be studied as they go through the cell division cycle.HOW IT WORKSAs light goes through a transparent specimen, there may not be anything interesting to see. However, the light undergoes phase changes as it passes through the different parts of the specimen. Unfortunately, the human eye does not notice phase changes. A phase-contrast microscope converts these unnoticed phase changes into differences in brightness, which the human eye sees very well. The darker and lighter parts of the specimen make it very visible. This also works on reflected light microscopes.

Does sound travel with the same speed through all materials?

no......... the speed changes as it goes through different materials example: when sound goes through air it is faster then when it transfers to go through water because water is more dense and there are more particles for it to have to pass through

What does an ice cube go through when it is melting?

The bonds between water molecules are weakened.

Why use dry ice to make stage effect instead of water ice?

Dry ice goes through one change to make "fog", but water ice has to go through two changes to become a gas.You could use water ice to make fog, but it would have to go through the liquid phase before it evaporates or boils. But dry ice, instead of melting and evaporating, will go through what is called sublimation, which is the change of matter of solid to gas.
