Psychologically seen, people often spot other people's mistakes better but never their own, and very often they make exactly the same mistakes but won't see it if they do them, it's like they are blind for their own mistakes, unless someone comes up with a mirror and says: "Hey, you act just the same, remember when...?"
Another reason could be to justify one's own behavior, to make oneself feel better, not having to feel guilty.
