An atom is stable, and unreactive, if it has a full outer shell.
That is, if it has 2, 10, 18 or 20 electrons.
Atoms with any other number of electrons do not have full outer shells, and thus are unstable and reactive.
The elements in Group 18, which we know as the inert or noble gases, each have a full outer (valence) electron shell. The fact that their outer shells are full means that they do not wish to either loan out or borrow electrons to "complete" their valence shells. As the loaning, borrowing or sharing of electrons to achieve "fullness" in the valence shell is the reason that elements react and form compounds with other atoms, the noble gases, because they have full valence shells, aren't generally interested in reacting with other atoms of any kind.
because they all have a full (8 electrons) in their outer shells. every atom "wants" to have a full outer shell, that's why they will react with other elements in order to gain or loose elections. but because the Noble gases have full outer shells, they dont want to react with other elements.
they are stable because they contain either a duplex or octet electronic configuration
(2) (2,8) (2,8,8) and they wouldn't want to gain or lose electrons because their outer shells are already full....
2,8,8 = 18 that is stable electronic configuration so you can say that its third valance shell of electrons is completely filled with electrons.
The group 18 elements are the noble gases on the Periodic Table. What makes noble gases non-reactive is that they have completely filled valence shells.
because it has a complete number of valence electrons in the outer most shell
The elements in this group have a full valence shell, so are unreactive in most cases.
Group-18 family is the most inactive family. It is stable and hence non reactive.
Noble Gases
Noble gases are found in the 18th group in the periodic table.
the vertical column is called group in the periodic table.
group 18, the right most group on the periodic table
Stable Elements in the periodic table are located in Group 18 of the periodic table. It is a group of noble gases.Noble gases are considered most stable in nature.
because its dangerous for everything in the world
Group-18 family is the most inactive family. It is stable and hence non reactive.
Alkali metals. This is the most reactive group on the periodic table
The most stable elements are found in the Noble Gases, in group 8 or group 0. The most UNstable elements are found in the alkali metals.
Noble Gases
Noble gases are found in the 18th group in the periodic table.
group 18, the right most group on the periodic table
in the Periodic Table it is the most reactive metals!
the vertical column is called group in the periodic table.
i dont know the answer<<<Then why did you answer??? PS: good luck with the weekly quiz bowl.
The most reactive nonmetals are the halogens in group 17 of the periodic table.
