Where and how did the Pittsburgh Pirates get their name from?

The Pirates got their name from their early practice of picking up players from defunct teams in the 1900's and 1910's, most famous being Honus Wagner from Louisville. Hence, they "pirated" players.

I'm not sure weather this is true or false but I've read it over the internet and someone said "The word "Pirate" Originally comes from the Latin word "Pirata" which translates to "Attack".

The Pirates began their major league life as the Pittsburgh Allegheny of the American Association in 1882. The Alleghenys left the American Association after the 1886 season and joined the National League, starting in 1887 as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys. The name was changed to Pirates in 1891.
