Color blindness is a genetic trait passed from one generation to another. It is carried on the X chromosome and males have an XY chromosome where females have an XX chromosomal makeup.

If the male gets the colour blind gene on his one X chromosome he will be colourblind. About 1 in 20 males get this.

Women can be carriers of colorblindness meaning they can pass it on, but will most likely not show it.

For a female to be colour blind both X chromosomes need to be colour blind, which is very uncommon, but does occur in less than 1 in 200 females.

No, for the most part. Ordinary females see all the same colors as males. Males are just more prone to color blindness.

However, some females do see more colors then males, and that is called tetrachromia, and those females are carrying the color blindness gene. Females also can be colorblind but its more common in men. The normal human retina's color receptors are tuned to green, blue, and red. Working together, the three give us our colorful view of the world. When one or more of those color receptors is missing the result is colorblindness. While most of us have color vision based on three channels; a tetrachromat has four. What happens there is that a female is carrying the color blindness gene, and both it and the normal gene are equal dominant and are both being expressed. So that means they have amber receptors in addition to the usual three. However, there is a 50% chance that any sons would have colorblindness.

Who is most likely to be affected by color blindness?

alot more boys are colour blind than girls

Is it more common for girls or boys to be color blind?

Boys. The gene that causes the varying degrees of color blindness is recessive and must be present on the X Chromosome. Since boys have only one X Chromosome, it is more common for boys to be color blind than girls. It is still possible for a girl to be color blind, but it is significantly rarer. The problem affects 8% of Caucasian males and 0.5% of Caucasian females.

What do you think of gender selection?

it's unfair. girls and boys have the same powers. but sometimes the situation changes like if you're in a country that's very unsafe, it's good for girls to be more protected than boys because girls are more sensitive.

Are there more girls in the whole world or boys?

Technically, the ratio of boys to girls in the world's population is an even 1:1. However, the most recent population estimates have shown the ratio to be closer to 1.01:1, meaning for every 100 girls born, 105-107 males are born. So actually there are more boys than girls in the world, but just barely.

Is there a difference between how boys and girls are taught in Kenya?

Yes there is. In theory, there is not supposed to be. But in practice, many countries are patriarchal-- they value boys more than girls, and think the boys deserve more education than the girls do. While there are some upper class elites in Kenya who educate their daughters equally to their sons, among those who are in the lower classes, it is more likely that the boys would be encouraged to study, while the girls would be expected to leave school and marry. Further, even those girls who do study would not be encouraged to have careers in professions considered to be better suited for men. Again, there are exceptions, but it does appear that Kenya, like several other African countries, remains a country where expectations for girls are not as high as they ought to be, and girls are not encouraged to achieve the way boys are. I enclose a link to a study that showed how few girls are being educated in certain parts of Kenya.
