Because they try to hard to be funny, people can see the joke a mile off and it is thus lame and boring. People who watch tv wont get laughs out of the same old same old. it needs to be fresh.
The humour is LAME! I get the joke but it isn't funny.. who cares if someone gets caught picking their nose or farting or doing so lame social faux pas? They must live in a really hermetically sealed environment if that is the greatest taboos. It's like do-gooder humour won't offend anyone...... middle ground stuff. They're too scared to make fun of christians or any other religious group or race. Too PC. It isn't self-deprecating either like British/Australian humour - except for The Simpsons or something like Married With Children. Most audiences cannot relate to these people.. they're complaining about their day or how they couldn't find a parking spot in NY whilst they are in comfy swanky apartment etc.
Sitcoms can be funny if the viewer connects it to their own personal life. But some sitcoms are stupid and viewers get pleasure off of watching the characchters run around and make problems for themselves
