Rice is more dense than water , while the human body is very less dense than water
You can put a uniform object into water. If it sinks density is higher than water,if floats lesser than water. If you can place anywhere in water, density is equal to water.
The water lily disperses its seeds in the water. The flower produces a fruit that floats in water for a while. It then sinks down to the bottom to take root at the bottom of a pond of other body of water.

A body floats in water because it is less dense than water.
Its density, not weight that counts when deciding what floats.
It can be if it is lean. If it is fat no. Note that water is 1 gram per mL. If an object floats it is less than 1g/mL If it sinks in water it is greater than 1g/mL
The uman body floats in water because its density is just under that of water.
according to Archemidies principle ,"when a body is dipped in water its weight is reduced , this reduction in weight s eqivalent to the volume of water which replaced by the body." when a steel ball dropped in water the weight of replaced water by the ball is less than weight of the ball , so the ball sinks. But in the same condition the volume of water replaced by the boat is more wieghy in comparision to the weigh of boat , hence it floats. The term for this is Bouyance. It also explains why a Dirigible(Zeppelin) airship floats in the air. The Volume of Dirigible weighs less than the Air it displaces. Believe it or not, the same is true for Steel Ships. What I find hard to fathom is how a Ship full of heavy crude Oil floats?
As the body floats then the weight of the body and weight of displaced liquid would be equal to each other. Hence it floats
The total weight of the surface area of a boat is less than than the weight of a body of water of the same size (buoyancy), so that is why it floats. A needle sinks because a body of water with the same size is lighter than the needle. Note: It is entirely possible to float a needle on water. It requires a bit of doing, but it can be done.
In water, a metal spoon sinks. In water, a plastic spoon floats.
