That is not true. They will actually turn out more strong as long as they have socialization and learn how to lead HAPPY, FULFILLING lives--this doesn't come from having a lot of wealth. Trust me, I've been there. I've seen many vunerable people, and they often come from families that had more money than we did.

Why poor family want more children?

There are a number of reasons why a poor family might wish to have more children. Children are an expense, but they are also a resource. At some age, they can go to work and earn money. Poor families generally do not have savings which will allow their elderly members to retire comfortably, but if you have lots of children you have a better chance that your children will support you when you are no longer able to work. In addition, in some cultures it is a sign of virility for men to have lots of children; it is good for their reputation. Men with large families are considered more important than those with smaller families. And in some cultures, it doesn't really matter if you can afford to support your numerous children since you will qualify for government assistance, and the taxpayers will support your children. In addition to those relatively calculating or cynical reasons to have children, some people just love children. Children can be lovable.
