The Vietnam War was between North and South Vietnam. North Vietnam was a Communist country trying to take over and control South Vietnam, thus spreading Communism to Another Country. The spread of Communism was something the US did not find acceptable. The roots of Communism have come from Russia who we were competing with in making the most amount and most effective nuclear weapon. This again comes back to a country working to control the world.

In 1917 came the Bolshevic Revolution. This was the overthrow of the Russian government by the middle class who turned it into a communist nation. This scared America at the time, as it was a period of growth for big business and upper middle class. Many feared that the American lower class might rise up like the Russians had. Americans were showing signs of it as well, many workers were unsatisfied with their job conditions and created Unions to picket and protest their jobs. This was the first Red Scare in America and soon a 2nd red scare came to arise in the 50's. This was caused for a different reason, nuclear weapons. After World War Two there remained 3 strong allies; Great Britain, America, and Russia. Russia had never been a complete friend to America, but they allied together only in the case of fighting Germany in WWII. Russia had grown to a high hegemonic power in the World and America feared that. Once the nuclear bombs came into place many Americans feared that Russia might use it against us. This can be proven by situations such as the Cuban Missile Crisis. Anyhow, the overall fear during this time was that Russia would use its nuclear weapons to defeat "capitalism." As Russia grew more powerful, America was scared that they would influence other nations into Communism against America. The whole fued was blamed on the fact that Russia was communist when in reality it was a power struggle between America and Russia.

By its nature it required the removal of capitalism in any region it was used. Because the US is based on capitalism, it was associated with other standards of the US system of society and thus a "threat to democracy and freedom".

Not just Vietnam, anywhere; it just so happened that the Reds were putting the most effort and violence into South Vietnam (RVN). They couldn't get enough steam to start one in Central or South America...or anywhere else. But it took hold in SEA (Southeast Asia).
