They feared that a strong central government would become corrupt and oppressive, with a head of state who was above the law (like a king), and a congress (or parliament) manipulated by big business. Even some people today, including this contributor, believe that they were right.

People did not like the Articles of Confederation because of all the debt it had and they simply couldn't pay it off. Taxes... I know we all hate them but they didn't have any so they couldn't pay off the debt! The had limited power. Money problems, couldn't make laws, they made it hard to write the constitution, No court to debate problems, and every state only had one vote. Not a vote per person. Per state. They were so weak compared to France an d England and such so it was like Wearing NEON ORANGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FOREST! "Hello I am right here come attack us and take the land" No. That did not work very well. Another thing is that they didn't have a president! That is Why people didn't like the Articles of Confederation.

There was one thing that was good for the people from the Article of Confederation: They Provided A Way For More States! If that weren't to happen California, Washington, Utah, Nevada so on, wouldn't of became states. That is the one thing we can Thank the Articles Of Confederation!
