The Impressionists
Monet was born in November of 1840, he started at the Secondary school or arts in in April 1851. During this time he began to paint and use charcoal on his studies. He also received art lessons from Jacques-Louis David at this time. Many of his paintings were painted around 1870-1874.
Impressionists in 1874 opened an exhibition at the studio of a photographer.The exhibition contained a painting by Monet titled "Impression: sunrise. For one of the critics this was a funny title and so he called all this group of painters "impressionists". With this he meant that these painters did not have enough knowledge about art but felt that the impression of a moment is sufficient to call painting.This name was not removed anymore and his "funny" meaning was soon forgotten .
Impressionism began in France during the 1870's. As to where, Honfleur, on the south coast of the Seine estuary, where Monet painted a picture entitled 'Impression - Sunrise' in 1872. This provided the name for the movement.

No; A critic saw a painting (Impression: Sunrise) by Claude Monet at an exhibition in Paris in 1874. He didn't like it, and mockingly called the show "exhibition of the impressionists". Claude Debussy's music evoked a similar fleeting mood and misty atmosphere, which is why the connection was made between the two. Although the derisive implication was eventually lost, the term impressionist stuck.
