Connecticut was one of the 13 colonies during the American Revolution. After America won, and the Constitution was written, the colonies were allowed to become states under the condition that they ratified the Constitution. The benefits of being a state were having representatives in the Senate and the House of Representatives, so that when decisions were being made for the whole nation, people from their state would have some say.
