In the Old Testament book of 1 Kings, chapter 18 verses 18 through 38 it tells about Elijah and the prophets of Baal. They built an alter to their god Baal, and Elijah built one to God Almighty. They both had everything they needed except fire. The Baal prophets called to their god and nothing happened. Elijah called to God Almighty and fire came down and consumed everything.

King David also received acknowledgement from God in 1Chronicles 21:26 when fire from heaven consumed his sacrifice to the Lord after he had prayed. David's son King Solomon also was acknowledged by God at the dedication of the temple in Jerusalem 2 Chronicles 7:1 by fire consuming his sacrifice. Others in the bible have talked about or are said to have the ability to call down fire but have not actually done so. The disciples asked Jesus if they should call fire down from heaven on the Samaritans who were inhospitable in Luke 9:54, but never actually did. In Revelations 13:13 the beast of the earth is predicted to be able to call fire down from heaven however this prophetic book may actually have a more figurative meaning for this depiction.
