It is difficult to single out the ancient Greeks for their religious beliefs. Almost all peoples of ancient times believed in one or more gods, and the Greeks were no exception.

∙ 16y agoAncient Greeks had a religious belief which included a deity for most human virtues and vices.Eg beauty (Aphrodite /Venus) , wisdom (Athena), war (Aries) Gods were a simple and a 'because' way of explaining things you can't control. Love, the Sea, weather, natural disasters. They were given grumpy temprements to explain why people would be killed in such events. An easier way than the modern "Why would a kind and loving god bring death to his people"

Everyone needs something to depend on, people can't believe that everything is up to us, its too much responsibility. they need it to explain things they cant, ie "why are we here" and "why do bad things happen to good people" and questions like that. even Athiests may believe in destiny or luck, both are forms of relieving oneself from responsibility. The Greeks had gods and goddesses to mainly explain the phenomenons of the world. The Gods were personifications of things they could not explain. Such as Wind, Seasons and Love.

∙ 13y agoThe Romans and Greeks had the same reasons as other people throughout the world, right up to the present day. Religion helped people explain how the world was created. It gave them hope for divine assistance in time of peril, as well as hope for a life after death. The Greeks sought advice and knowledge about the future from their gods, but the Romans asked augurs to provide advice and knowledge about the future by performing animistic rituals.
