Quite a controversial matter as it is, History was written by the winners how they wanted it to be written. What we all learn in our history books is that Hitler striked the USSR as it was seemingly and easy target and quite unprepared for any serious resistance whatsoever. Now there, actually what might have been the reason behind this is that Stalin was gathering forces in an attack formation to roll through Europe, which would be weakened greatly by the war with Germany. That is why all the factories were gathered at the front lines and a defence line was not even built due to Stalins attack plan, there would be no need for defence, and if not for Hitler relising this and attackin before Stalin could set his plan to action, the USSR might have easily established total control over Europe, and then nobody, not even the USA would be able to do anything about it.
Actually Staligrad was an after thought. It was never a goal until the German Army got close enough to think it could be captured. Hitler's biggest mistake was to make it a goal in order to capture the Caucus Oil fields to the southeast or because it was named after Stalin. Some historians (Russian maybe) claim the Russian military did this on purpose to trap the Germans. I say Hitler was just stupid.
Hitler wanted Lennigrad because it held a large number of arms factories. He needed/wanted those supplies. It was also the former capital of the USSR and was a symbol of the Russian Revolution. It has also the main base for the Soviet Baltic Fleet. The city was responsible for a large part of the USSR industry output-11%. By doing this, he hoped to ruin the morale of the Soviet people. The city itself was unprepared and a lot of the civilians starved to death (known as the Siege of Leningrad). Also, it had to do with getting rid of Bolskevikism, which was put on the same level as Jews.
To sever the logistical supply line to the Russian interior .
Stalingrad, Leningrad and Moscow.
Hitler's decisions contributed to Germany's defeats in both Stalingrad and North Africa because Hitler refused to retreat when he already obviously lost the battle. He lost 200,000 troops to death and 80,000 nazis were captured.
The Battle of Stalingrad. The Germans never regained the initiative.Stalingrad
After he was done with Stalingrad he would move to Moscow. He would easly because the red army would have only 1/3 of there strength ater Stalingrad. After Hitler was done with the Sovet Union he would go in take over Italy. Then he would move to the western soon France would fall again to Hitler. Spain would come next then Great Britin and Portugule. After all the allies were defated(exept for Canada,Mexico, and China) Hitler would build up his nazy and then lanch a huge attack on the North American Countrys. He would go for The United States, first going up to Washiton D.C. After he would go for Mexico and Canada and attack Japan. The United States would be last to go and probily have to face at the end all the people, wepeons, planes, ships, and bombs. If that fails its all over. Hitler wins.
A "Toothbrush moustache"
Hitler attacked Stalingrad on August 23rd, 1942. This was not a strategic move and was majorly intended to be a blow to Stalin's ego. Hitler was cocky about his successes in Europe and believed that an attack on Stalingrad would be an easy German victory. This attack, however, proved to be one of Hitler's greatest losses.

Hitler signed a pack with Russia saying u scratch my i scratch urs. u don't attack me i wont attack u well as u can see he broke that pack and that was a big no no because Russia retaliated and that cost Hitler dearly.
he launched an attack on russia and the soviet countries known as operation barbarossa which started off successful but after stalingrad germany was slowly beaten back
The communist leader who defeated Hitler in the battle of stalingrad was Joseph Stalin. He was the leader of the USSR who defeated Germany in the battle of Stalingrad.
People would call the Battle of Stalingrad as it was the last major offensive by the Nazis on the Eastern front in Europe. Once the Soviets launched their counteroffensive attack, the Nazis had no chance and began to decline from the city of Stalingrad and from the USSR.
Never underestimate your enemy, and don't attack Russia in the winter. Also note that Hitler refused a defeat at Stalingrad. His pride pushed half his military into a meat grinder costing him the war.

The Americans took Stalingrad? The Americans were never anywhere near Stalingrad and the Battle of Stalingrad was won by the Soviet Union.
1,143,500 Soviets were in the Battle of Stalingrad after the Soviet counter attack.
