The fake reason is to dehumanize the prisoner work worse. There is also a history that the hair was to be used in the production of "womens mattresses" as attested at Nuremberg.

Nazis shaved prisoners heads to prevent the spread of lice and the deadly disease typhus. zyclone b was used as the countries premiere pesticide and was used to delouse prisoner barracks and clothing in order to prevent the spread of the disease. zyclone b is also reported as being accountable for the death of 2/3rds of the Jewish prisoners during WWII, but no one knows how many lives were saved by regular hair cuts and delousing.

Hitler himself did not shave any heads, but the SS troops (respectively the SS doctors) in the concentration camps and death camps did that for two reasons: on one hand there was a high grade of vermin infestation in the camps (bugs, rats, ...) so they tried to minimize the risk of even more vermin, but on the other hand, they used the hair of the victims to make mantles and lining from it (after the death of the victim they also broke out gold teeth).

Adolf Hitler only removed hair from Jews in concentration Camps because he was afraid (because of the terrible conditions in the camps) that they would spread head lice (nits).
