After taken control of Iraq Saddam Hussein started a foolish war with Iran which lasted 8 years of which he made Iraq's economy crippled. In addition his debts in billions to other countries and his defeat in the war with Iran, Saddam started harrasing Kuwait and UAE. Saddam continued his false accusations to Kuwait with various reasons such as stealing Iraq's oil, which was a false accusation because Iraq's intention was to invade Kuwait and control other gulf countries like Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and UAE. Saddam didnt expect that the whole world would rise against him, where 33 countries went into battle with Iraq on Feb. 1991, and the result was always a humiliating defeat to Iraq.
The Iraqi government had long considered Kuwait a province of Iraq and its oil wealth could help to pay off the debts that Iraq had incurred from its Iran-Iraq War. Kuwait also had no means of resisting invasion. (Its army is tiny by comparison with Iraq's.)
It's been suggested that when drawing up the borders for when Iraq became semi autonomous like the British Dominions, the boundary's commission pencil that drew the line, when scaled up, meant two miles that should of been part of Iraq, was in Kuwait. But Iraq didn't stop at that.
Its because Iraq accused Kuwait of stealing petroleum through drilling.
because they wanted Kuwaitis oil for them self also they thought it was there land so they thought they could take but unfortunately its not.
The Iraqis can control the Kuwaitis oilfields
Kuwait, to Iraq's southwest, was conquered by Iraq in 1990. It was considered the 19th province of Iraq since during the Ottoman Period, Kuwait was part of the Mesopotamian region dominated by Iraq. However, the separation of Kuwait by the British early on made it independent to all but the Iraqis.
Most of Iraq and Kuwait, eastern part of Syria and south eastern Turkey
Once, when the Ottoman Empire still existed, Kuwait was a part of Iraq. Nowadays, it is an independent country, rich with oil. Iraq's leader- Saddam Hussein, wanted to regain the lost land of Kuwait and also gain control over Kuwait's oil wells. He then planned to continue, and Invade Saudi Arabia- which will put Hussein in the position as the biggest single oil supplier in the world- for he would control 40% of the oil supplies in the world. Therefore, Hussein came up with the excuse, that Kuwait is slant-drilling and in fact are stilling Iraqi oil. Something that was never proven right. With theis Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990. The war was over within 100 days, with Iraqi's withdrawal and loss.
They offered to withdraw from Kuwait in exchange for part of Kuwait.
Present day Mesopotamia includes Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, and Syria.

Kuwait was a part of Iraq and then declared independence under the British empire. Iraq is its own country. There are autonomous regions, such as Iraqi Kurdistan, but no separate countries.
Kuwait is an independent nation and is not a part of the UAE. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a southern Middle Eastern nation, and Kuwait is more of a northern Middle Eastern nation. The question you ought to be asking is whether Kuwait is a part of Iraq, as it has been a part of Iraq/Basra/Babylonian Empire/Mesopotamia for over 6000 years.

Saddam Hussein believed Kuwait to be a part of Iraq that had been unfortunately separated from Iraq by the British. As a result, he believed the emirate to be a proper part of the same country. (This is similar to how Armenia believes that Nagorno-Karabakh should be part of Armenia.)

Answer 1when iraq was under the ottoman colonists but in after 1920 when British colonists came as they want to support Iraq by give Iraq independence from turkey. After that they asked the Iraqi king to sign agreement that makes British colony official in Iraq after he refuses they divide Kuwait and they threat him by doing the same thing for ninawa city and give it to turky if he refuses for the second time.Answer 2While it is true that Kuwait and parts of southern Iraq were part of the Vilayet of Basra in the Ottoman Empire, the Vilayet of Basra constituted less than 30% of modern Iraq in terms of land area. Iraq was established by the British colonialists who united several different Ottoman territories under one monarchy and they divided Kuwait off of the main group.
That is essentially true, although the motives for Iraq's invasion of Kuwait were a bit more complicated than that. Iraq had borrowed billions of dollars from Kuwait, to help finance its war with Iran, and it did not want to repay that loan. There were disputes about oil wells on the border between Iraq and Kuwait. It is also true that in an earlier historical period, Kuwait used to be part of Iraq, so it could be argued that Iraq was asserting a historical ownership of that region. And aside from all that, Saddam Hussein announced that his purpose for invading Kuwait was to (as he put it) liberate Palestine. I interpret this to mean, he wished to build a large empire which would then have enough military power to take on Israel. So there were lots of motives. But basically yes, Iraq wanted Kuwait's rich oil supply. And the rest of the world objected to this violation of the UN charter. From our current perspective in 2013, it is hard to be sure if this was really such a good idea. Perhaps we should have just let Iraq have Kuwait.
Yes, for the most part the fighting took place in the Middle East in Kuwait and Iraq.
