To prove his power over death to this world and to show that his followers will have victory over death also. The Bible teaches that Jesus died as a sacrificial substitute for His people. He took the punishment for their sins upon Himself. It also teaches that Jesus' resurrection is God's way of showing that this sacrifice was acceptable to God. That is good news for believer, since it means that they are free from the judgment of God's wrath.

The short answer: to show that death was defeated.

The long answer: Why Jesus rose again ties in with why He died. Jesus died as the

ultimate sacrifice for our sins (wrong-doings against God) God can't be with sin and so

all people do wrong, we were cut off from being in the presence of God. Jesus died to

take our punishment and make a way for us to be able to come into the presence of God

again through Jesus.

His resurrection is God's proof of His promise that we will be raised anew with Christ to

inherit eternal life; that on the Last Day at the resurrection we will all receive new bodies

like Jesus did on that third day when he rose again.

The resurrection is the proof of the promise of God to us, and without it, our faith is

meaningless.

To prove that he had conquered death, and not simply succumbed to it.

Answer:

"...if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: and if Christ be not risen, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith is also vain... if Christ be not raised, your faith is in vain; ye are yet in your sins." (I Cor.15:13-16)

Contrary to popular belief by many modern Christian denominations ... Jesus' death doesn't save us... His resurrection does.

His shed blood sacrifice for His creation (the shed blood of God) is the world's atonement for "past sins." Those who "believe" in the power of His shed blood have their past sins blotted out... and they may then "begin living a new life in a living Christ" of overcoming sin (which is the breaking of His Commandments - I John 3:4).

"...being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for THE REMISSION OF SINS THAT ARE PAST, through the forbearance of God..." (Rom.3:24-25).

Jesus' blood "justifies" those who place their "faith" in it... "believing" that it has the power to "wipe the slate clean" of all past sins, so that we are no longer "under the penalty of death" for the breaking of His laws. We are now "free to begin living WITHIN the law"... not above the law, or to return UNDER its penalty of death for breaking it.

The believer must then "repent" of his past way of living... and begin to live in "newness of life" in accordance with the Word of God, the Bible, IN LOVE - the outgoing concern for the welfare and well-being of others - rather than the way of living that is "natural" to man - selfishly... uncaring of others.

LOVE - outgoing concern for others that's been so desperately missing in the world from the beginning.

That's why Christ's resurrection is important. We need to not only be aware of sin, of what sin is and try to begin learning to fear Him and NOT SIN... that is: "obey His Commandments"...

"...Fear God, and keep His Commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."

(Eccle.12:13)...

...but He needs to BE ALIVE as our permanent High Priest in heaven at the very throne of God interceding on our behalf before His Father, to forgive us when we fail to "hit the mark" and sin - which we will do as long as we are flesh and blood.

It's a continuous dose of Christ's love living in us that we must renew, daily, in unceasing prayer and constant communication with the Father through Him.

Therefore... HE MUST BE ALIVE for it to work!

It's a "spiritual birth process" that the process of physical pro-creation teaches us.

"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that WE ARE THE CHILDREN OF GOD..." (Rom.8:16).

A spark of God's Living Seed, His Holy Spirit, lives in the mind (spirit) of the "believer" where a "new child in Christ" is growing and developing" in Wisdom, Knowledge and Understanding of the Truth of God through the "nourishment" of the Bread of Life, the Living Word of God, the Bible, which is the Living Word of Jesus Christ. The believer must "feed on it" in order to grow.

"...If ye continue in My Word (the Bible), then are ye My disciples indeed; and YE SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH, and the Truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32)

Man shall live "eternally" by EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDETH OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD... not by "physical bread."

The Living Spirit of Jesus Christ is the "umbilical cord" of God's Children that supplies the nourishment, the revealed Truth of God's Word, to the developing child.

And if Christ is not risen... and if He is dead... there is no God... our faith is in vain and life is meaningless; we evolved... and mankind is merely developing and advancing his war-making technology to the point where one day he may end all life on earth - permanently.

Fortunately, He is risen, alive, and sitting at the right hand of the Father in heaven. The power of His blood to remit our past sins is real, because He is alive... and man may look forward in HOPE to Eternal Life because He lives:

"For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, WE SHALL BE SAVED BY HIS LIFE." (Rom.5:10)

"For in this hope were we saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, WE WAIT FOR IT PATIENTLY." (Rom.8:24-25 NIV)

"...Christ Jesus, who died - more than that, WHO WAS RAISED TO LIFE - is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us." (verse 34)

It is not that Jesus was resurrected ON Easter. Easter is the day his resurrection is observed, not necessarily the day he arose.
