The first "Tpe Writer" was laid out as

The letters were attached to arms that when the key was pressed forced the arm to hit print media. The layout although logical caused endless jamming of the ams as people tried to type at speed. This was because the mose used letters were ajacent to each other. Shole, a printer took the concept and moved the keys in to areas on the keboard that allowed the most used keys to be seperated enough that the arms collided less frequesntly. This increased the type speed and reduced type errors as well.
