Martin Luther
He at first mainly attacked the selling of indulgences in the church and then later on added ideas of "salvation by faith alone" and how to live as our savior Christ did.
Yes. Luther taught that faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the path to salvation. However he also belived by "Faith alone, by Grace alone, by Christ alone- there lies our Salvation. Lutheran's also believe that Christ's Sacraments- Baptism and Holy Communion are a "Means of Grace"- where Jesus Christ is attached through Water, Bread and Wine-The True Body and Blood of our Lord.
Salvation by grace alone and through faith alone.
Martin Luther believed that Christians are saved by faith alone in Christ alone.
The most important doctrine for Luther was the doctrine of justification - God's act of declaring a sinner righteous. Luther came to realise that a person is justified /put right with God by faith alone through God's grace. He began to teach that salvation or redemption is a gift of God's grace, attainable only through faith in Jesus as the Messiah. Luther wrote that Christians receive such righteousness entirely from outside themselves. Righteousness not only comes from Christ but actually is the righteousness of Christ, imputed to Christians through faith.
Martin Luther was born in 1483 and he died in 1546. Luther was a German priest and he believed that salvation is not earned by good deeds but received only as a free gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus as redeemer from sin.
salvation by faith alone
This is like comparing apples and oranges. Both Calvin and Luther vigorously proclaimed salvation by faith in Christ alone. The doctrine of predestination says that God has chosen the ones who have faith from the beginning of time, and emphasizes that faith and salvation comes from God alone. But again, salvation is by fiath alone, regardless of where it comes from.
He entered her office alone and surprised her.
He oppose the church when Luther objected to a saying attributed to Johann Tetzel that "As soon as the coin in the coffer rings, the soul from purgatory also attested as 'into heaven' springs."He insisted that, since forgiveness was God's alone to grant, those who claimed that indulgences absolved buyers from all punishments and granted them salvation were in error. Christians, he said, must not slacken in following Christ on account of such false assurances.
If you are inquiring about the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther is seen as the founder of the Protestant religion and him posting his 95 Theses on the Church in Wittemberg is considered where the Reformation began. Luther's beliefs targeted the Catholic Church, and he challenged the ideas of indulgences (something the common folk could buy for the dead in order to guarantee their acceptance into Heaven). He had three main "tenets", which were Christ Alone (Christ is the only mediator between God and Man, and so he should be the only one you pray to) Glory to God Alone (Faith in Christ is the way to Salvation, and it's not based on what you do in your life that merits salvation) and Grace Alone, which basically states that you cannot earn grace, but be given it by Christ alone. These views were the basis of a lot of events in Germany, including the Peasants War, the Thirty Years' War. Luther also helped standardize the German language by translating the Bible into the German he knew, which helped establish a common language among people (which helped in the Unification of the country, a couple centuries later).
