AnswerBecause there are many different social classes in Vietnam and they liked the idea of having equal distributions of wealth among their society regardless of who their occupation. They wanted their government to own the countries goods and services and have a one-party government with a controlled economy.

The communist superpowers; the USSR and Communist China SUPPLIED North Vietnam. The USSR/Communist Chinese were "friends" and supplied so many tanks, jets, guns, rifles, machine guns, grenades, trucks, patrol boats, missiles, radar sites that the North Vietnamese probably thought being a communist like their friends, the Soviets and Communist Chinese, was a good thing.

Besides, Ho Chi Minh had studied communism and he became a devoted communist long before the Vietnam War, back in the 1920s. He was the leader of North Vietnam and North Vietnam would become a communist nation.

It can be argued that neither the USSR or Communist China supplied the North Vietnamese forces. Neither country wanted to start a full nuclear war with the US, which would have happened if such a thing occurred. One reason for US influence in the Vietnamese Civil War was a SUSPICION of help from Communist China, which later turned out to be false.
