∙ 12y agoThere was not really a reason why they attacked peal harbor on the time and date they did beyond that America was not expecting and Japan took them by utter surprise witch killed and destroyed more people and battle ships than it would of if they was ready for the attack
After the attack on pearl harbor killing 2402 Americans leaving and 1282 wounded it left nealy the hole of the west coast undefended from a other attack or invasion.

The Japanese wanted to expand in the pacific...not engage the US for the sake of fighting the US. Pearl Harbor was attacked to ELIMINATE the US threat located there. Consequently, Japan may have left "sleeping dogs" alone. 2. Theory #2: However, if Tokyo Headquarters felt that the Pearl Harbor Naval Base might ultimately become strengthened by US Forces while Japan was engaged in it's conquests, within the surrounding pacific areas; Japan might have done more than simply attack Pearl Harbor...they might have invaded it. This would give them the strategic advantage in controlling the Pacific Ocean...and if the US wanted it back, then the US would have to take it back, like Okinawa, Iwo Jima, Guadalcanal, etc., had to be taken.
