because, the main reason the US was in Vietnam was to help South Vietnam resist communism. we were there to train the South vietnamese to defend themselves and we felt they were ready to take over. obviously, we were wrong.

AnswerCause of the strong anti-war movement back in the US; the fact that the war was costing a lot of money and American lives with seemingly no results (at least to the politicians in Washington); and the fact that the Vietnamese showed the resolve to keep fighting until they had all been wiped out (we killed them at about 20:1 for the entire war and they still kept going). ∙ 12y agoWe withdrew troops from Vietnam because there was many anti-war riots occuring in the U.S. The clergy, trade union, civil rights workers, and war veterans all protested the Vietnam War. Also president Nixon said in his election his goal was to bring back the troops in Vietnam. He had to follow his word so he slowly withdrew troops hoping that the South Vietnamese troops would take over. Even though this did not work and North Vietnam took over South Vietnam and united them with a communist gov. Also, about a year later, Nixon sent troops to Cambodia to destroy North Vietnamese military bases. This angered many Americans because it was being held a secret till word spread around from soldiers talking about it.

∙ 11y agoThey did this because Diem was quite literally the only Vietnamese politician that would agree with United States protocol and their plans for the South Vietnam government. However, like our politicians he was also corrupt and many rural Vietnamese disliked him for failing promises and stealing farmlands.
