Mainly because of chivalry. Manners were much more formal in the early 20 century and the men thought it best to care care of the women and children before themselves. The saying "women and children first" is known as the Birkinhead drill after a fanous incident in 1852 when the troopship HMS Birkinhead foundered near Cape Town, South Africa. There was not enough lifeboats for the troops and their families so the soldiers stood firm and allowed the women and children to go first.
It was the morals of the time, it was gentlemanly to give ones life to save women children.
This moral was never a part of international maritime law, but was a much used practice before. It has probably origin from February 1852, when it was used in a ship called HMS Birkenhead. When the ship sank, the men was told to "Stand fast" and let the women and children board the few lifeboats that were. This resulted in the survival of all the women and children, while most of the men died. The phrase "Women and Children first" was later called the "Birkenhead Drill".
On the Titanic, 74 % of the women, and 52 % of the children was saved, while only 20 % of the men were saved, so we can see that "Women and children first" was used on the Titanic.

In my opinion, because children are young and they need to live, and for women, they're the ones who keep the human race going because they're the ones who have babies.
The men wanted the families to live rather than themselves.
That is standard procedure in any lifeboat situation - women and children first.
Because of the protocol of saving women and children first in the presence of a life-threatening situation, especially on a ship
This was Edwardian chivalry at it's finest.
chivalry
There were different criteria among the officers while loading passengers onto boats. Murdochs policy was 'women and children first'. Lightoller's was 'women and children ONLY' - until only the collapsibles were left and all the women seemed to be gone. Which is why him, Bride, and Gracie were on overturned boat B

No. It wasn't easy to escape the Titanic. Since they didn't have enough life boats they wanted to have "Woman and Children first" So they can get them out. If you were a man, you had to stay on the boat as it was sinking. And if you disobeyed then you be shot. (Or punished: Taking away life belt and pushes off the boat) And of course the water was deep so you had to be a great swimmer. And the water was very VERY cold. And you would of died. Unless you were saved by a lifeboat
That was chivalry which was probably more prevalent in the early 20th century.
Many of the female passengers refused to leave the Titanic because they either thought it was wrong to leave the men or they were so devoted to their men that they wouldn't not leave them to die when they knew that this was exactly what would happen when they left. Many of the women believed it better to die WITH their men as well, instead of dying alone or leaving the men to die alone.
some people are saved in small boats. Woman and children first. More information in Kaspar King of Cats by Michael Morpurgo/My story - titanic
yes
369 women and children survived Titanic.
389 women and children were saved from Titanic.
Woman carry babies. Men don't really do much but fertilize it so therefore, to keep the human generation going, woman were the first to get on the boats.

Well mostly the men tied, the women got to go in safety boats while the men stayed on the boat and died. Some women died on the mini boats but others reached land.

Regulations on safety boats, to make sure everyone had the ability to get saved.. Also that it helped speed up the right for woman to vote.
People have been travelling on boats since before we started writing down history, so the name of the first woman is not recorded. The first people to use boats were probably Africans who went to Australia in boats some time between 100,000 and 50,000 years ago. Many of these would have been women.
