The Soviet Union had been warning the international community about Germany's aggression against other countries and its gaining power Months to years before the war started. These warnings gained little attention, so Soviets believed that if they joined the League Of Nations that people and other countries would pay attention to what they were saying, but they never did, the Soviet Union actually wanted a joint world effort to stop Hitler (similar to a UN strike) but no one listened. They also thought that if they were invaded that the other countries would come to their defense similar to the NATO defense policy where if one ally is invaded all the other must join and protect the other.
