They didnt call Hannah Chaya in the movie because they didn't want to confuse the watchers. It would take attention off the movie because the viewers would be trying to understand the concept of the changing name and they would lose attention.

What happens in chapter 7 of the devil's arithmetic?

Chapter6: Gitl called Hannah to get dressed because the wedding was soon and Hannah was eager to change for she had on such filth she thought. She also hoped opening the bedroom door would lead her home but it led her to the bedroom. Hannah asked Gitl what to wear and she was surprised she was given a rag that was supposed to look glamorous. Gitl once again assumed "Chaya" had lived better in Lublin. Hannah had mentioned she knew what a wedding was and Gitl used in a sentence "Miss I-know-what-a-wedding-is" Gitl apologized and gave Hannah some ribbons for her hair. Hannah looked in the mirror to see no braces and basically herself only old fashioned. As evening arrived the front yard was crowded. Gitl saw Hannah's timidity and held her close as she greeted the guests. Hannah walked to the Shmuel and was pushed away from some men. Some young girls greeted Hannah and Hannah was glad to have girls her own age to talk to. Hannah tried to remember the girls with their looks and told them about herself but not where she used to live. Then a girl brings up a story and Hannah begins to tell them her version of the story. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter7: She told them so many stories like Star Wars and Little Women. They were all stuck in story mode and some girls cried at the sad parts of Yentl and Little women and Hannah was surprised at the all the power coming from her mouth. Hannah started to remember all her memories and how she hung out with her friend Rosemary. She thought of her newfound popularity and a messing it up to explain she was Hannah not "Chaya" was just out of the question. She told them The wizard of oz combined with the story and the movie. Gilt walked by as one of the girls asked "What Kansas?" and Gitl laughed saying it was in America with New Rochelle. Hannah saw the evening sun and everybody was crowding the streets. As Hannah continued with Hansel & Gretel , there was the wail of music and all the girls screamed the "The klezmer!". Rachel stayed with Hannah and they listened at the chatter and music filling the air. The klezmer was a band playing its happy tune and all the players full of energy. Then a badchan tells everyone what they are, in poetic form, and it reminded her of a jester, maybe a Jewish jester.
