First, Britain and the US do not claim to be Christian civilizations; they claim to be Secular. The claim that they are Christian civilizations is often imputed to them because the majority of their populations are Christian. However, they do not govern according to Christian principles or ideals; they govern according to non-religious principles and ideals.

Second, neither Britain or the United States has a coherent policy on Nigeria. As long as the petroleum comes out, both of those countries are satisfied. Who is in power is of little relevance to them.

Was the Shah of Iran overthrown by Muslim forces?

The question as worded is not helpful. The Shah was ruling a country that is overwhelmingly Moslem, therefore any force that overthrows him will be constituted of Moslems. (A similar question would be "Was Louis XVI overthrown by Christian forces?") The question you are most likely trying to ask is "Was the Shah of Iran overthrown by Islamist forces?" where Islamists are those who seek to implement political manifestations of Islam. The Islamic Revolution did not start out as being led by the Islamists but during the late part of 1978, they began to have substantially larger role. By the time the Shah left, the Islamists led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini were able to move into the power vacuum he left and crush all of the liberal dissenters.

Why did Islamists criticize Sadat's government?

There are two major reasons.Secularism: Sadat had a secular government which did not intend to implement Islamic Law as a base policy. Islamists wanted Egypt to become a place similar to Iran in 1979, not to become increasingly Western-aligned.Peace with Israel: Sadat's biggest crime, in the view of Islamists, was making peace with Israel as opposed to continuing in an endless struggle with the "Zionist Entity". He was assassinated in October of 1981 specifically for ending the war between Egypt and Israel.

What did Islamists spread throughout the old world starting in the eighth century?

Islamism is a modern movement and did not exist in the 8th century. If by Islamist, the questioner intends Muslim, the Muslims spread the religion of Islam and expanded the borders of the Islamic Empires through expansionary conquest. It is worth noting that a Muslim is a person who believes in the tenets of the religion of Islam. An Islamist is person who advocates the political goal of making a country follow Islamic Law. Most Islamists today are Muslims, but most Muslims are not Islamists.
