Clydesdales are very gentle they are like gentle giants. I'm not sure if they are smart in general but i have known 3 clydesdales that stop when their rider falls of, find their way home by themselves and know if the sea is to dangerous even if the rider forces them to they wont go. So i'd say they are pretty smart.
