Head lice have evolved with their human hosts since ancient times. No one knows exactly why we have them as they serve no identifiable purpose and are not known to spread disease.

There are 3 types of lice that have human hosts: head lice, body lice, and pubic lice. All are different species and exhibit different physical characteristics and life cycles.

They get in your hair because they need to live and survive. And the only way they can do that is to suck blood from the scalp and reproduce by laying eggs on the hair.
you just kinda catch it from other people.

no one knows for sure but they do go to your head and it is contagious so if you have lice stay home and wash your hair really good and ask your parents to get the lice kit to get them out ( lice kit found at any pharmecy or drug store)

Answer:

Lice have had a large period of adaptation to be successful with humans. Whether you talk about head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis) or pubic lice (Phthirus pubis, Pthirus pubis) we've been close associates for hundreds of thousands of years. Like any opportunistic parasite they have idenified a niche where they can survive in relative comfort. The reasons for these choices (in evolutionary terms) are unknown.

In the case of head lice there are two distinct species, one of which we share with early humans and one of which is common throughout European and Asian humans, The archaic form is only found in North American natives, indicating an early separation of them as a distinct cultural group.(See Link)
