My daughter gets extremely sick at the start of her menstruation - usually the first day but sometimes longer. She is violently sick and feels unwell as a result. She has been advised it is almost certainly due to an excess of oestrogen - so mimics morning sickness in pregnancy. So hormones - the simple answer!

This is not usual. There could be multiple reasons, though. I'd advise you to see a doctor, because one possible cause could be Endometriosis.

(Even if it's not caused by anything worrying, a doctor can still prescribe something to help ease / eliminate your discomfort.)

Whoever said 'life is fair' was lying. Women clearly bear an unfair burden when it comes to simply being human. Not only do they bear our young which is difficult enough, but their bodies go through several important hormonal changes that prepare the body for fertilization of the human egg cell. These changes occur monthly throughout the childbearing years, and since they involve changes in blood flow, body temperature and discharge of the previous cycle's materials, they are accompanied by a period of discomfort which can be severe for some women.

'Fraid so, for some women at least. Everyone's different when it comes to symptoms but feeling nauseous is perfectly normal.
