Because something upset them. It's a Secondary reaction, it has to have a trigger. Think about it, you can only get upset if you felt hurt emotionally, somebody physically harmed you, etc. Like all other emotions, it's part of being human.
"Underneath anger is hurt, and underneath hurt is love."
- some Chinese Buddhist saying
People get angry due to a process known as psychological projection. The human being has a defense mechanism that makes it easy to bury and forget painful and unresolved issues from the past. When there are any forms of non-harmonious feelings, we can almost always trace it back to projection.
Then good news: It's easy to cure by yourself, without a doctor, without medication, without years of therapy, or lifetimes of meditation.
This is the site to visit if you are willing to take responsibility for your own part in the disharmony that occurs in the world:

It costs nothing. All you do is list the people who you have been angry with or hurt by or judging of or any person who causes you stress when you think about them.
Step 2: You write down exactly how you feel about them and how you think they SHOULD be.
Step 3: You ask the evaluation questions found on the website above.
4. You turn it all around and find yourself free of that particular unconscious behavior for the rest of your life.
Caution: This method is only for those who are willing to take full responsibility for what is happening in their lives, bodies, and minds. If you aren't willing to do this, then that is the same as saying "I'm actually quite happy to continue projecting and blaming the whole world rather than growing up."
The main thing to remember about anger is that in most instances, the person who seems to be mad about nothing or way too mad about something minor is really angry about something that probably happened a while ago and they haven't been able to confront that issue or the person involved. People become angry usually after they have been hurt in some way. If that person fails to confront the person who has hurt them then their feelings of being hurt are replaced by anger. If the issue has not been addressed then this person is a good candidate for being the one who blows up - seemingly over "nothing". Sometimes just asking why they are angry gives that person an opportunity to discover what is really making them angry. Once a person knows the source of their anger and deals with it the anger can begin to dissapate. Just proceed with respect and respect the other person's wishes if they don't wish to open up about it. Going around angry all the time is an awful way to exist and anything we can do to help others get beyond their anger is worth the effort, so long as we know the limitations and boundaries.
I am actually an angry person myself. I have heard a lot of my friends say that their first impression of me was "I hope she doesn't kill me." In general, people are angry because they resent the world due to negative experiences in their life. The best thing you can do is try to be nice and make friends with this angry person. They may still be angry for a while, but they will eventually warm up, and their anger may fade and you will find that that anger intended to hide the person's sensitivity, kind of like putting up a wall of anger to keep that person safe.
