To become a police officer you must attend the police academy. After graduating, POST has a min hours of training that an officer must have each year in order to keep their certification as a police officer. In agencies that are state certified, this min number of hours tends to be higher in order for the agency to keep their certification. Many agencies have officers who are able to teach a class locally and qualify for POST hours. They dont always have to go to the academy.
