Because it's necessary for all life on earth, it has certain unusual properties like being a nearly universal solvent, which makes it very useful for a number of biological functions. But really life could hypothetically exist that is truly alien to ours, and does not require water.

Generally.....yes. There are however competing theories on what allowed life to form. But scientists generally accept that water was the key ingredient that allowed the formation of life in the first place.

This is because life as we know it cannot exist without water.

We do not rule out that other planets have different forms of life.

Scientists just believe this to be not likely at all.

Why do scientists think mars may have once been a warmer place and may have had a thicker atmosphere?

Scientists have proven that liquid water once existed on Mars. Currently Mars is too cold and atmospheric pressure is too low for water to remain liquid, so both temperature and surface pressure must have been higher.

What are physical characteristics of Uranus?

transparent Blue and whitish blue! with a ring! no actually it is made of liquid and gas and scientists think it may have a rocky core. once again GAS GIANT!!!!!

What does the eruption on Neptune's moon involve?

Salt water? I guess you mean the moon Triton. Scientists seem to think it's liquid methane and liquid nitrogen that is being thrown onto the surface, forming a thin atmosphere of mainly nitrogen with some methane.

What do scientists think are the reason that there is no liquid water on mars now?

The reason why Mars has no water because its atmosphere is too thin, so the sun vapoured all the water on Mars and it does not have any plants to make it rain there.

Is rain a solid or a gas or a liquid?

Rain is a liquid because it is water.

Why do scientists think there is liquid in the Earth's core?

Scientist think there is liquid in the Earth's core because the temperature there is far too high for any rocks or metals to remain solid

What do scientist think might exist under Europa's crust?

Scientists believe that there is liquid water, under the crust of Europa.

Why do scientists think that Europa might have the conditions for life to develop?

As far was we know the development requires water in its liquid for to be present and a source of energy to supply/drive chemical reactions. We know that deep down Europa has a liquid layer (of water) and the geysers of this water into space proves that there is energy in Europa's core.

Scientists think that Europa may have?

It may have oceans of liquid water under its layers of water ice. Scientists want to know if these oceans (assuming they are there) contain any forms of life.

Why do scientists think that mars may have once been a warmer place?

Because its rocks clearly show that it once had oceans made of liquid water.

Scientists think that europa may have what?

The scientists think that Europa can have the life on it.

Should Scientists become Presidents of Africa?

I think that it is generally helpful for political leaders to have a knowledge of science. I don't think that a background as a professional scientist would be necessary, although it would do no harm.

Is Goldilocks a new planet?

No. Some sources in the Media have been throwing around the term "Goldilocks" in reference to planets that orbit in the habitable zones of their respective stars, the region where a planet might be able to support liquid water (neither too hot nor too cold), which scientists generally think is necessary for life.
