Food chains can be seen in a energy pyramid. There are rarely more than three or more links since each predators are more dominant than others. This also means that particular of animals are barely been eaten from other predators. In addition, through the energy pyramid, the reason why is because 10% of it's energy in each trophic level is used and 90% of it is lost.

because of Ten Percent Law. Energy reduces by 10% when it goes to next Trophic level in food chain. For Example:

Grass----Grasshopper----Rabit-----Sanke---Eagle

Eagle will have the least energy. So that is why food chains have only 3-4 Steps.!!

There are 2 theories:

1. that only 10 percent of the energy that exists in the prey consumed can be passed up the food chain. therefore,m it cannot go on indefinitely.

2. that the longer the food chain is, the more of an effect changes in the lower levels will have.

Most animals eat more than one plant or animal. So a variety of food chains get linked together.

How many food chains are there total in the world?

food chains are generally short, most food chains have anywhere from 3 or 4 links.food chains are generally short, most food chains have anywhere from 3 or 4 links.4 types

Why is a food chain normally limited to 4 or 5 links?

Not all food chains are linked just 4 or 5.

Why do food chains stop at 4 organisms?

because if there were any more it would overpopulate and under populate in many animals because of all the varies of animals

Why do food chains not exceed 4 links?

because the way a food chain works is energy is transferred between trophic levels, but as you move up each trophic level, about half of the energy is lost, which means when you get to the fourth trophic level, only about 10% of the original energy is remaining, so adding another level would mean that the creature would have to consume 10 times as much of its respective prey to get the energy equivalent of 1 of the creatures at the first trophic level. so in other works, energy consumption would be too inefficient

Which element is a major component of hemoglobin?

Haemoglobin is made up of a protein called globin which is bound to a red pigment called heme (hence the name haemoglobin) Globin is made up of 4 chains (polypeptide chains) embedded inside each of which is a heme molecule, the latter has an iron atom (in ferrous state) in it. It is the iron atom which carries a molecule of oxygen. As there are 4 chains this means that there are 4 iron atoms which means that 4 molecules of oxygen can be carried by each haemoglobin. Why is there usually no more than four or five stages in a food chain?

There cannot be too many links in a food chain. Food chains always begin with a plant and end with an animal. If there are more than 4 or 5 links in the chain , there will not be enough food for the animals at the end of the chain.

What is the limit of links that most food chains have?

the amount of energy available decreases with the addition of each link.

Does a food chain need a consumer?

Yes, food chains do need a consumer. There are 4 types of consumers.

How long can a food chain be?

A food chain can only be up to 5 trophic levels in length, including the producer. Only a small proportion of the previous organism's energy is passed down through trophic levels to the next organism. This diminishes the energy available, so there is little or no energy to be gained after the 5th stage of a food chain. :)

Why do most food chains consist of no more than 3 or 4 levels?

During the progression of each stage, the organisms in the food chain exert tons of energy. Most chains are broken down to four stages for that reason.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of food chains and food webs?

The main advantage of the food chain is that it is simple and easy to understand what organisms eat and ho the energy flows between them. It's very simple and usually only 3-4 chians long inrespect to a food web which shows a collection of the food chains linked together thus gives a broader and a fuller picture of the feeding relationships between organisms. The main limitation of a food chain compared to a foodweb is that the food chain only shows that a consumer only feeds on one type of prey but in the food web the consumer could on more than one prey. The main disadvantages of both the food chains and the food web is that the they both only possess qualitative information and dont show any quantitaive information thus you cannot know the number or the amount of mass or the energy stored within each trophic level.

Why are chains not used on Canadian Ice roads?

Because where the ice on the ice roads is only 4 feet thick the chains could cut into a rut and break the ice.
