Some planets have moons because space dust or gases were stuck in the gravitational pull of a planet, and eventually built up together to form small planet-like formations we now call room. Planets that are larger typically have more planets (Saturn, for example). Ask on!

Why do some planets have no moons?

The process of planet growth from a solar nebular is a very chaotic one. The process of moon formation (or preservation in planetary orbits) is one of chance. Some planets will have no moons others will have many moons. However it is likely that the innermost planets will have the smallest number.

What orbits some planets?

What are four different type of celestial bodies?

the most common are stars, moons, planets, and some others are asteriods, comets, and meteors

Do all planets have the same number of moons?

No, some planets like Mercury and Venus don't have any moons. Earth has one moon, Mars has two moons, and the outer planets have lots of moons. Jupiter has more than 60.

Why do the planets go round the sun and not the moon?

Because the moons are the ones revolvimg around the planets (only some planets have moons, not all). And besides, moons aren't in the center of the solar system. They're even smaller than the planets.

Can dwarf planets have moons?

Yes, and they do. Not all of them have confirmed moons but some do. Pluto, for example, has four known moons.

Some get by asteroids others (like Earth) hit hit with a meteoroid and the rock that fly out into space form together to make a moon

Does the sun have a moon?

The sun has 8 or 9 major planets and thousands of smaller objects orbiting around it. Some of the planets have many moons. (eg Neptune has 13) It can have moons but so far all of the moons are to close to the planets to get caught in the sun's orbit.

How is a planet differant from a dwarf planet?

Well, dwarf planets are much much smaller than planets and some people may confuse some of Jupiter's largest moons as dwarf planets but because some people may look at the moons and confuse them with dwarf planets (i know someone who dose) !!
