The answer involves several factors. One of these is that teen-aged males have not fully matured especially emotionally. The "boys will be boys" mentality is strong. Assuming you are a female, most abuse is by males on females. It is a fact that abusive males grew up in households that had abuse going on. It could have been a growing boy watching his father abuse his wife or girlfriend or that the boy, himself, was an abuse victim.
On the other hand, not all abusive teens are male. There is nothing more pitiful than an abusive female who is dysfunctional by trying to get her way via abuse, threats to leave or be with someone else, jerking males around and teasing or tormenting them, etc. Either way, If your relationship has YOU as the abused, get out before it gets worse. It always does.
