To find faith in God or Jesus.

For many centuries now, The Bible is the World's 'best seller.' It has been copied into many languages and there are just as many reasons why people read the Bible - curiosity, help, comfort, advice, answers, faith - and the list goes on and on.

As the #1 Best Seller, it is highly suggested that one reads it. This in no way means one will fully understand it as that is God's Will the degree to which one may understand it. It may be thought of being a great 'jigsaw' puzzle with parts of answers in one place and other parts in a very different book. One must spend years praying for understanding and searching as the Bereans did in Paul's time to gain insight into the Scripture. Proof of the difficulty in coming together in common understanding can be seen in the multitude of sects of followers - the rainbow coalition of Christianity.

Answer:

Different people read it for different reasons.

Some, to find fault with it, to prove it in their mind that it's wrong and flawed.

Some, because their parents tell them to... or read it with them.

Others read it in an effort to try to understand who they are, why they are. To seek answers to some of life's questions; like, does life have any purpose... to try to understand why the world is the way it is. What is death? Who or what is God... etc?

Others read it, as they are "called" by its Author, to have its Words revealed to them. They read it humbly, "with trembling" [Isa.66:2]... with a "child-like, trusting heart and mind" in Faith [believing it] -- and continue reading it because they are able to see the Truth of God that was once hidden from them [John 8:31-32].

Most people don't read the Bible... but those who do, read it for all kinds of different and personal reasons.

to learn the word of god

Answer

The bible is a classroom, where many teachers are sent to teach us the answers to life's complex questions which we are unable to answer for ourselves. Three main questions that to pupil has are 1. Who and what is God. 2. Where did we come from. 3. Why are we here and 4. Where do we go after this life. The bible teaches us that as a man thinks so he is. As the first to answer says, to learn the word of God, but I add to get to know who god is and for us to be like Him.

you if you want to read read it but when you not read pray.

Aside from religious purposes, the Bible is one the key pieces of literature to understand Western society and culture. The stories of the Bible form the foundation and allusions of many stories, its proverbs have become commonplace, and its ideals have formed the root of modern politics.

"Need" is a bit strong. It's probably quite possible to live a good and fulfilling life without ever having opened a bible. But there are good reasons to have some knowledge about it. No matter what your personal beliefs are, there are plenty of Christians in the world. And reading the bible, or a sensible book about the bible, can provide a helpful view into what their beliefs are and how they relate to the world. And if you ARE a Christian, then having some own knowledge of what your faith is based around seems like a good idea. Some people also find it helpful to read a piece in times of stress and worry. They find something in there to either act as a guide on what to do, or as a comforting thought that things will change to the better soon.

BECAUSE:

"All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is True and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is Right. It is God's way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do." (II Tim.3:16-17 NLTNew Living Translation)

Christians read their Bible because from the Bible you can learn who God is and how He has dealt with mankind throughout the ages. From the Bible you can learn how to live a God pleasing life - a life of faith in God. Christians believe the Bible is God inspired and the teaching is appropriate for all people at any time.

2Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living,

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

From the Bible you can learn God's way of salvation.

2Timothy 3:15 and you remember that ever since you were a child, you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Christians read the Holy Bible for a number of reasons. Some read the Bible to be better informed about the basis of their faith; some believe that by reading the Bible they improve their chances of going to heaven; some read the Bible because they need constant reinforcement in order to overcome doubts about the reality behind faith.

Hopefully, they don't! The point is to worship the God of the Bible, not the Bible itself!
