The Immaculate Conception refers to Mary, the Mother of Jesus, who was uniquely preserved from the stain original sin at her conception by a direct intervention of God. Theologians attribute this miracle as part of God's plan for the incarnation; it was only fitting that the Son of God would emerge and take his human nature from a pure vessel, that being a mother who was free from sin and its influence.

Mary is called the Immaculate Conception because she was conceived without original sin. By virtue of her being chosen as the mother of Jesus, she is being prepared by the Father by giving the privilege of being conceived without sin or stain. She is "full of grace" as mentioned by the Angel Gabriel during the Anunciation, thus, being addressed by her cousin Elizabeth as "blessed among women, and blessed is the fruit of her womb."

Many people confuse the Immaculate Conception with the virgin conception of Jesus. However, these are two very different things.

According to Roman Catholic theology, the Immaculate Conception is, the conception of Mary without any stain (macula in Latin) of original sin. That is, Mary was conceived and born without Original Sin.

Theology states that, from the first moment of her existence, she was preserved by God from the lack of sanctifying grace that afflicts mankind, and that she was instead filled with divine grace. It is further said by Catholics that she lived a life completely free from sin.

Her immaculate conception in the womb of her mother, through sexual intercourse, should not be confused with the doctrine of the virginal conception of her son Jesus, known as the Annunciation, and followed by the Virgin Birth.

An official statement of the doctrine reads, "…the blessed Virgin Mary to have been, from the first instant of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of Almighty God, in view of the merits of Christ Jesus the Savior of Mankind, preserved free from all stain of original sin." Essentially the immaculate conception is the belief that Mary was protected from original sin, that Mary did not have a sinful nature, and was, in fact, sinless.

So how did it happen? God wanted Mary to be the mother of Jesus and he wanted to make sure that she was an appropriate vessel. He therefore gave her divine grace as she was conceived and made sure there was no stain of Original Sin.

'Immaculate' means completely neat and clean. Conception means (for our purposes) the act of getting pregnant. Normally this involves sexual intercourse, which in turn involves the exchange of bodily fluids. This can be very messy, and would never be described as an immaculate procedure. Mary's first pregnancy was with Jesus. Since Jesus was the Son of God, it did not involve conventional intercourse (i.e. there was no sex involved). This means that there were no bodily fluids exchanged when Jesus was conceived, thus the conception was immaculate.

True answer

The above author is confusing the Virgin Birth which has nothing to do with the Immaculate Conception. Mary was to be the Mother of God so she had to be totally and absolutely pure. She was conceived without original sin in the womb of her mother St. Anne.
