Ecosystems exist because animals, plants and other organisms exist. Ecosystems are basically the relationships between all the organisms in one habitat as well as the abiotic elements in that habitat.

Good question, in my view it should be an eco-chain or something along those lines. It is an ecosystem, because there are 1000's of these ecosystems within say the Savannah, the tropics, or the antarctic. This is why we call them ecosystems.
