Answer for USA, Canada and countries running a 60 Hertz supply service. It sounds like the hair dryer wiring is in series with the microwave circuit. This can be very serious in some situations as the current for one device will be flowing through the second device. This could be caused by an open neutral on a three wire circuit. The hair dryer is on one side of the circuit to neutral and the microwave is on the other side of the circuit. With no return to the neutral bar the one device has to depend on the second device to close the circuit to operate. Check for an open neutral in the first junction box that is fed from the distribution panel. The open neutral could also be in the distribution panel. Check the breakers that feed the plugs that the devices are plugged into. It should be a three wire red, black and white cable set. See if the white is connected to the neutral bar. An electrician should be able to correct this condition on a service call.

Before you do any work yourself,

on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances,

always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized

Did my dryer trip the breaker or vice versa when I turned the breaker back on but now the dryer won't work?

The dryer tripped the breaker. Have it repaired. Don't try to use it again. You could cause a fire.

How far from a laundry tub faucet should you install an electric dryer outlet?

There is no requirement on the distance the dryer must be from a sink. Any 120 volt outlet must be GFCI protected if it is within 6 feet of a sink. There is no requirement for a 240 volt dryer outlet. I would not want the dryer right next to the sink and I would want the dryer to be on a 4 wire circuit and not a 3 wire circuit. Use common sense here.

What size wire should be used to connect a dryer to electrical panel?

That depends on the dryer. Some have natural gas capabilties and use a standard 120V outlet (20 amp dedicated circuit). Others operate strictly off of electricity and use a 230V power source. These use a somewhat standard dryer outlet that conforms to the plug from the appliance, and are usually (but not always) 30 amps. In the case of the former you would use a 12 gauge wire with 2 conductors (hot and neutral) and a ground. The latter would use a 10 gauge wire with 3 conductors (2 hot wires and a neutral) and a ground. Always refer to the appliance specs to determine how the appliance should be wired, and find a qualified person to install these outlets if they don't exist.

Why do we use 50ohm impedance for microwave circuits?

50 ohm is a great compromise between power handling and low loss, for air-dielectric coax..

How do you transfer electricity without wire?

Close up you can use induction. This is how many cordless toothbrushes are recharged. Power can also be transferred by microwave transmission for longer distances.

Can you use a blow dryer to straighten hair that is already dry?

Its really easy to straighten your hair with a hair-dryer. To straighten your hair using a hair-dryer you need to comb/brush your hair then get a hair-dryer and put the heat level on high for about 20 seconds whilst combing/brushing. Then turn the hair-dryer off and just your hair will be straight. It may be frizzy but for this you can use hairspray to flatten.

How many watts does a hair-dryer use?

It depends on the model, if the hair dryer is a 1500 watt hair dryer, then it uses 1500 watts on high heat. If the hair dryer is a 2000 watt hair dryer, then it uses 2000 watts on high heat. Hair dryers come in all different size wattage, so it depends on the size wattage of the dryer. Most hair dryers are 1500 watts.
