Answer

You hiccup because your diaphram spazzez. There is no proven evidence that hiccups are caused by a lack of carbon dioxide in the blood. At this moment in time, no actual cause is known for the cause of hiccups.

Please see the "Related Links" section of this answer for more information on hiccups and why they could be caused.

Its because you swallow air and the nerves, senses, and muscles want to push it out. So they PUSH on the sides of your stomach and the air comes back up your throat./ Therefore this makes a funny sound when te air is travelling up your throat and that funny noise is a hiccup. This is natural and if you hiccup it doesn't stop for a while it does NOT mean you are sick or ill. Do not consider this as an illnes.

Most people get them from eating too much or eating too fast. Sometimes just breathing too fast can result in hiccups.

The diaphragm almost always works perfectly. When you inhale, the diaphragm pulls down to pull air into the lungs. When you exhale, it goes up to help push air out of the lungs. When the diaphragm becomes irritated it pulls down in a spasmic way, causing air to rush in causing the hiccup sound.

There ribcage has spasms. And the hic-cup is the result.

It's a thing that happens in your body when you've drank or eaten too quickly- this usually being the cause.

A hiccup is a kind of forced intake of breath, caused by muscle spasms in your chest and throat. There are over 100 causes for hiccups, but the most common is irritation of the stomach or the oesophagus - the food tube that leads to it. The "hic" noise comes when the breath is cut off by the snapping shut of your glottis - which is like a fleshy lid or trapdoor that separates the food and air tubes in your throat.
