There are lawsuits against the Da Vinci Surgical System because there was a malfunction in the equiptment. These malfunctions had the potential to cause serious and life-threatening complications, but the company did not recall the equiptment even after the discovery.

What is some information about hysterectomy with robotics via the da Vinci method?

Hysterectomy using the da Vinci method and equipment is fast becoming one of the more frequent procedures for removal of the uterus. If this procedure is proposed, ask the surgeon or gynecologist to explain it to you in detail and ask how much experience they have using this method. This procedure is robotic-assisted and done through a laparoscopic approach which is very minimally invasive and recovery times are much shorter, pain is less severe after the surgery, and often only a few Bandaids are needed on the small incisions after the procedure. Not all patients who need a hysterectomy can be surgically treated this way, but if it is an option given to you, if it were me and if the surgeon is experienced, it would be the procedure I would request. More on da Vinci surgical robotics from the da Vinci website, see link below: The da Vinci Surgical System consists of a surgeon's console, a patient cart with four interactive robotic arms, a high-performance vision system and patented "EndoWrist" instruments. The da Vinci Surgical System provides physicians with such enhanced detail and precision that the System can simulate an open surgical environment while allowing operation through tiny incisions. Interesting information: The product is called "da Vinci" in part because Leonardo da Vinci invented the first robot. He also used unparalleled anatomical accuracy and three-dimensional details to bring his masterpieces to life.

Who invented the da Vinci surgical system?

The Da Vinci robotic surgical system was developed and is marketed by Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (see the related link below) According to one account, the original developer was a high functioning autistic and loved watching medical shows like Discovery health. He started drawing pictures of medical tools when he was about 12. At 15, he drew a design for something like that. His parents patented the design for it and then sold to some medical development company. Then when they were redesigning it a couple of years later, they actually sent him the design and paid him a massive consulting fee.
