Usually to correct and straighten teeth, improve the bite and also make them look more attractive when you smile. If you have straighter teeth you can clean them more effectively and quicker, less plaque equals less cavitys.

∙ 13y agoThe reason why people need braces is because sometimes they have an overbite or crooked teeth. I am getting braces in a couple of weeks and my doctor said they did hurt when they were tightened but that's it

or they could have their teeth so poorly positioned that they can't bite down properly(or always bite their tongue), or that they're at a high cavity risk. a smile is just one part, but a big reason for me was that i couldn't eat apples that weren't sliced, whole raw carrots, and that my teeth were actually growing into each other and would have broken each other if i hadn't had some pulled and the braces put in.
